Studio Note #62: Lead With What Matters.

The one they're looking for is the one that matters.

We've been making some changes to Vendorfied Network recently, and one of the biggest has been how we talk about what we're offering.

When we first launched, we focused heavily on giving contractors an online presence. A professional profile, a place to showcase their work and a way for potential customers to find them.

All good things. But as we've continued developing the program, we've realized that one of its most valuable benefits wasn't getting nearly enough attention.

Financing.

Through Vendorfied Capital, our Network members can offer financing options to their customers while also accessing funding for equipment, working capital and other business needs.

That's a pretty compelling reason to join.

And yet, we'd been treating it like a supporting feature rather than leading with it.

The funny thing is that we didn't need to invent a new service or fundamentally change the program. We just needed to recognize which part of what we were already offering mattered most to the people we were trying to reach.

It's easy to get caught up in explaining everything your business does. You spend so much time building something that you want people to understand all of it.

But your customers aren't necessarily interested in the whole picture. At least not yet.

They're interested in the part that solves their problem.

Sometimes the most important change you can make to your business isn't what you offer. It's what you lead with.
