Studio Note #47: Now We’re Three.

Every big thing starts with a few people who believe it can work.

There’s a moment in Batman Begins that has always stuck with me.

Before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman, he sneaks into Sergeant Jim Gordon’s office and, without revealing his identity, questions him about why nobody has brought down Carmine Falcone.

Gordon tells him what he’s up against. Falcone owns the system. Cops, judges, politicians. He tells Bruce the kind of leverage he’d need to make a case stick, along with a district attorney brave enough to prosecute it.

Bruce gives him the name of his childhood friend, Rachel Dawes.

Then Gordon says:

“You’re just one man.”

Bruce replies:

“Now we’re two.”

And before Gordon can turn around, he’s gone.

I thought about that scene today.

We’ve been working toward this moment with Vendorfied for more than a year.

Not this exact version of it. If you had shown me what Vendorfied looks like today a year ago, I’m not sure I would have recognized it.

We’ve built things. Scrapped things. Changed direction. Questioned the model. Rebuilt the model. Built a product and eventually realized the company needed to be bigger than the product.

But through every iteration, the goal has been the same: build something that genuinely makes doing business easier for the people we serve.

For more than a year, that required a lot of belief on our part.

This week, we landed our first lending partner for Vendorfied Capital.

For the first time, the financing side of this business isn't something we're preparing to launch. We have a partner ready to fund projects and, perhaps more importantly, one that sees the same opportunity we do.

Now we’re two.

Then today, we signed the first paid member of the Vendorfied Network.

One contractor.

That number isn't going to impress anyone.

But I don't think I'll ever forget the first person who saw the vision and put their resources behind it.

Because yesterday we had a network with no paying members.

Today, somebody raised their hand and joined.

Now we’re three.

There is still an enormous amount of work ahead of us. We need more contractors. We need to fund our first project. We need to prove that all these pieces we've spent the last year putting together work the way we believe they can.

But today feels different.

For more than a year, we’ve been building Vendorfied and asking people to believe in where we think this can go.

Now they’re starting to join us.

Now we’re three.
