Studio Note #65: Stuck.
Not every click feels like progress. It still counts.
This week, I’ve felt stuck.
Not stuck in the sense that nothing is happening. More like I’m putting a lot of energy into a lot of things and not getting the feeling that any of them are really moving.
Earlier this week, I wrote about giving five percent to everything.
That’s what it felt like.
But looking back at the week, that’s not really what happened.
Projects moved forward. Things got approved. Problems got solved. Pieces that had been sitting around finally found their place. Some things got finished. Others got closer.
There wasn’t a big moment.
No launch. No giant new client. No single thing I can point to and say, there it is. That was the week.
Just a bunch of small things moving in the right direction.
I think I’ve gotten too used to measuring momentum by milestones.
The signed contract. The finished website. The payment hitting the account. The thing going live.
Those are easy to see.
What’s harder to see is everything that has to happen before any of them are possible.
The email that moves something forward. The conversation that opens a door. The problem that gets fixed. The decision that eliminates three other decisions. The hour spent doing something that won’t pay off for another month.
None of those feel like momentum while you’re doing them.
They just feel like work.
Maybe that’s the part I’ve been missing.
Momentum doesn’t always feel like acceleration.
Sometimes it just looks like Friday being a little further along than Monday.
And this Friday, I am.
